What Meesho actually requires from a catalogue image

Meesho’s catalogue requirements are specific and unforgiving, and most rejections are for mechanical reasons rather than a bad photo. Images must be exactly square at a 1:1 ratio, at least 1000 x 1000 px (500 x 500 is the absolute floor, and 2000 x 2000 is recommended for sharpness), JPEG or PNG, no larger than 5 MB, on a plain white background, with the product filling roughly 70 to 80% of the frame. No text, no watermarks, no borders.

A phone photo satisfies almost none of that. It is 4:3 or 3:4 rather than square, it may be 8 MB, and the product sits wherever it happened to sit in the viewfinder. Crop it square by hand and you clip the product; leave it as-is and QC bounces it. This tool does the mechanical part properly: it pads the photo out to a true square with pure white rather than cropping into your product, scales it so the longest side hits your chosen fill percentage, and exports a JPEG sized under the cap.

It also audits the photo you started with, so you learn before you upload if the original is below 500 px, wildly off-square, or in a format Meesho will not take. Everything happens in your browser - the photos never leave your device, and you can drop in a whole batch and process them in one pass.

How to format a product photo for the Meesho catalogue

Three steps, and it batches - drop in a whole folder at once.

  1. Step 1: Drop in your product photos

Select one image or a whole batch. JPEG, PNG and WebP are all read; the export is always a Meesho-friendly JPEG. Files are opened by your browser and never uploaded.

  2. Step 2: Choose size and framing

Pick an output size - 2000 x 2000 is recommended - and set how much of the frame the product should fill. Meesho’s guidance is 70 to 80%; the default is 75%.

  3. Step 3: Download the formatted images

Each image comes back exactly square, on a pure white background, with the product centred and under the 5 MB cap, ready for Catalog Upload in the Supplier Panel.

Why listings fail QC

Meesho QC turnaround is a day or two. Every rejection costs you that, and the reasons are nearly always mechanical rather than aesthetic.

  • Pads, never crops

A square crop cuts your product’s edges off. This adds white margin instead, so the whole product survives the trip to 1:1.

  • True white, not near-white

The background is RGB 255,255,255 exactly. Off-white from a phone auto-white-balance is a common, avoidable rejection.

  • Framed to Meesho’s own rule

The 70-80% fill guidance, applied consistently across a whole catalogue instead of eyeballed per photo.

  • Kept under 5 MB

JPEG quality is stepped down automatically until the export fits the cap, so nothing bounces for file size.

Frequently asked questions

What image size does Meesho require?

Exactly square (1:1). The floor is 500 x 500 px, the recommended minimum is 1000 x 1000 px, and 2000 x 2000 px is what to aim for so listings stay sharp on large screens. Files must be JPEG or PNG and no more than 5 MB.

Why does my product need a white background?

Meesho requires a plain white or light neutral background so products look consistent in search and category grids. Pure white is RGB 255,255,255. This tool sets that exactly for the padding it adds - but note it does not remove an existing background from your photo. Shoot against white, or use a background-removal tool first, then bring the result here.

Is this a "Meesho image generator" for lower shipping charges?

No, and deliberately so. Those tools reframe your photo to trick Meesho’s automated weight estimator into a cheaper slab - the image changes, the parcel does not. That misrepresents the product, shifts the real cost onto Meesho and the courier, breaks supplier terms, and typically pushes you outside Meesho’s own 70-80% framing guidance in the process. This tool formats images to the actual published spec. To lower shipping honestly, reduce the real weight or box size - our Meesho shipping calculator shows you exactly how far you are from a cheaper slab.

Can I process a whole catalogue at once?

Yes. Drop in as many photos as you like and they are processed in one pass with the same size and framing settings, then downloaded individually. Everything runs on your own machine, so the only limit is your device’s memory.

Will it upscale a small photo?

It will scale to your chosen output size, but upscaling cannot add detail that was never captured - a 400 px photo blown up to 2000 px looks soft and tends to fail QC for blurriness. The tool audits your source and warns you when the original is too small, so you can reshoot rather than waste a QC cycle.

Does it add text, logos or watermarks?

No, and it never will - Meesho rejects images carrying text, watermarks or borders. The output is your product on white, nothing else.

Are my product photos uploaded anywhere?

No. Images are read by your browser, drawn onto a canvas on your device, and saved straight back to your downloads. There is no server in the loop. Load the page, disconnect from the internet, and the tool still works.
